In the 1990’s MediaWave brought the new medium of webcasting to life, achieving 5 Guinness world records in the course of delivering Robbie Williams concerts live across the internet.
Robbie’s third appearance was at the Manchester Evening News Arena at a concert in which Kylie Minogue put in a surprise appearance.
To promote Roger Taylor’s new album Electric Fire, in 1998, MediaWave launched a new format in webcasting by streaming the event directly from Roger’s own studio. This saved the artist literally millions of dollars in promotional travelling and was obviously significantly better for the planet in environmental terms. The Realvideo internet event was shown live to 595.000 viewers on the official Queen website and broke a world record.
MediaWave partnered with Microsoft to arrange a pay-to-view event for Elton John, the end result being the live streaming of the incredible concert in Ephesus, a beautiful amphitheatre by the Mediterranean sea in Turkey.
Following the success of streaming live events with major acts, the industry started to look at ways to increase venue popularity and increase profit. With that in mind, Madonna and her management commissioned Mediawave to transform her Brixton Academy concert into a truly global event, picking up an estimated 9 million viewers.
Webgigs
Following their success, the management of MediaWave changed the company to DVBusiness and adopted the concept of “WebGigs”. They wanted to hold more events in rehearsal studios, proposing this to several artists.
The concept gained a new life with the rapid development of virtual reality head sets, especially following the success of Taylor Swift’s 2024 World Tour which changed the perception of the capacity of venues like The Royal Albert Hall or The Hollywood Bowl. The industry is finding that more and more artists are willing to consider the benefits of performing unique concerts online.

The Future
Details details specific details. We are looking for £100,000 in total in the first round, to develop an Android and an iOS App. Following this we will add the Meta Quest and Sony PSVR and Apple Vision Pro versions, Targeting in total: numbers, details etc.
